How to be a good ring steward
Ken Morrison, the ring steward who is sometimes known as “The guy who puts your armband on your arm for you”, retired and wrote a bunch of stuff about ring stewarding at dog shows.
Now there are two books. The first, "How to Ring Steward at Dog Shows: Conformation" came out a year ago.
The second, "The Future of Dog Show Ring Stewarding: Conformation" is available now.
There is a lot of really good information in the second book.
First, with show entries dropping to 700 a day, the idea of two shows a day becomes much more attractive. So this book actually demonstrates how two shows can be run in one day.
Second, since more than 70% of specialty shows are developed by independent show secretaries, there is a wealth of information about making armbands, streward's books, and ringside displays.
Third, the ringside displays (with up to four computer monitor displays per ring) are driven by a laptop in the ring.
Fourth, the in-ring laptop is a necessary step for the need for better information transfer.
Fifth, several stewarding classes are given for ring stewarding at specialties, Canada, and the US.
